Practice Makes Habit

How do you develop Social Capital? The answer is easy, but like anything it takes a lot of hard work and practice. How much practice? Malcolm Gladwell, in his book Outliers: The Story of Success, says that to become an expert at something you need 10,000 hours of practice. He found this to be true looking at successful people from several different fields, including music, sports, and computer programing.

But what kind of practice? Some people like to say that “practice makes perfect.” That’s simply not true. Like my martial arts instructor likes to say, “practice makes habit.” You have to know what you’re doing while you practice, or you’ll end up practicing bad habits.

That’s why we’re writing this blog and building this business - to help you learn how to practice better. There are endless opportunities to practice building social capital, from talking to your local grocery clerk, to negotiating a raise with your boss, to just about anything where you’re interacting with other people.

Will you make mistakes along the way? Absolutely. But, we’re going to help you get closer to A+ practice so that you’re more likely to get A+ results.
