Enthusiasm And Attitude - You Have A Choice

Social Capital and enthusiasm are inextricably linked. No matter what kind of skills you have, your enthusiasm is going to make a difference. In an earlier post, I mentioned the importance of having a winner’s attitude, citing a post by management guru Tom Peters. Since that post, I’ve had numerous other conversations with people who are saying how tired they are of hearing as much pessimism about the economy and not enough positivity.

I’m involved in a monthy Master Mind Group that meets conveniently at our office in San Francisco. It’s part of the San Francisco Webeneurs and Entrepreneurs Meetup group, one of the “Top 50″ Business Meetups in the nation. Our group is filled with entrepreneurs who are positive and assertive about growing their businesses, regardless of the overall economic climate.

Bill Ayers, the founder of this Meetup, writes about attitude in a recent post titled This is Going To Piss You Off. In that post, Bill talks about focusing the opportunities around us:

As for me, I am working more, marketing more, creating more. I am investing in me and my business. I am creating more value, new value, high value to exchange to my market. I have joined a master mind group to build my business with other like minded entrepreneurs. I am searching for a worthy mentor. I am finding new ways to challenge and expand myself by looking at how I have been avoiding growth because of laziness and fear.

What’s this got to do with Social Capital? When you interact with someone face-to-face, your attitude and enthusiasm will say so much more about you than you might realize. People want to do business with people who are positive and optimistic.
