Michelle Goodman, of ABC, wrote an article The Death of the Power Lunch that suggests that people are foregoing the power lunch in place for other less costly activities.
We love articles like Michelle’s. They help you think about why you’re doing what you’re doing. What are your goals for this lunch? Are you doing lunch to show off? Are you doing lunch the right way?
Articles like this give us yet another opportunity to clarify the connection between Social Capital and the specific things that you do, like business lunching. Richard expanded on this earlier today on our other blog (Reports of My Demise are Greatly Exaggerated).
Creating a productive business relationship over lunch is just a matter of doing some very basic things regardless of your personality. Our DVD, the Power Lunch, gives you a basic template to help you maximize your chances for success. I’ll get into the details of the template in more detail in upcoming posts but our DVD covers the fundamentals and walks you through a typical “power lunch.” Bear in mind that this template can be used for any activity that you choose in place of lunch. The Power Lunch DVD is your introduction to the Social Capital way. Once you internalize this process, you’ll be able to use it anywhere.
I hope when you read that post, you’re getting the idea that the fundamentals of developing Social Capital are very similar from one situation to another. The fundamentals at a networking event are not that different than at a power lunch… than on the golf course… than at breakfast… you name it.
I hope this helps.
