Preparing for a Crisis

You won’t hear “social capital”, “networking”, or “business lunch” anywhere in Jean Chatzky’s clip from the Today show. I’m including it for a one main reason: all the suggestions that Jean makes about preparing for a crisis have to do with long-term thinking, not short-term, which is how we want you to think about developing your Social Capital.

Check out Jean Chatzky’s post “Surviving a Crisis” to see the video.

As you watch the clip, notice how the conversation is about being prepared. It’s about looking at the big picture. Building up savings to cover six to nine months of living expenses doesn’t happen overnight. You have to make a plan and approach it as a long-term effort.

It’s the same fundamental position as our approach to developing social capital. Developing Social Capital cannot be done in one week. It’s not something that you take care of the day before an interview. It’s a different way of looking at your business relationships over the long haul.
